Oh wow, so sorry you have all this chaos to deal with.

You have to focus on the pampering you did while you were away on training and make a promise to schedule more time when this chaos subsides. I find during the chaos a walk in the bush with my dogs or listening to music helps soothe me to deal with things.

Sorry you had your own personal natural disaster
I don't know what mine is as I try to remain calm. Was golfing with a friend and she rolled our power cart over an embankment. When we stopped rolling it was on its side with everything on top of me, including her. The first thing she said was, you look so calm. First thing I said was are you ok? We both were, luckily.

Drop in and visit my blog sometime, but you'll probably regret it

Oh no...I am so sorry.

I never quite know my breaking point until it arrives...though, with all that you've dealt with this week, I might find myself close!

Hang in there.

I've never reached my breaking point. There were times it was close but somehow I hung on. A good cry always helps. I try and remind myself that no matter how bad things seem, there is always someone worse off. Many times I felt soooo sorry for that ONE person worse off than me!

Jeez, I thought you had that all sorted out with the new pump you bought last time.

You're either gonna have to move to some where you are off the ground floor, or turn the basement into a permanent swimming pool.

Is this all groundwater seeping in, or is there a storm drain that cannot cope with sudden rain and it is finding your basement as refuge?

Big Hugs for you my Friend

You really have had one horrible year!! However you got over your job loss, despite it seeming like the end of the world, it really isn't. You have a sharp analytical mind, plan your way through it, one job at a time.

You are in my thoughts, and once more another

YES, I did find my breaking point about two years ago now.
That is when my wife passed. Things were finally so good for us. We were finally ahead on everything, we were doing good emotionally and health wise. We were looking forward to taking the first ride of the year the next day. Life was almost perfect...then the brain aneurysm burst...my life burst...there was nothing I could do about it. I flew her to St. Paul to give her a chance. I was completely helpless. I couldn't fix it. I can fix everything...but not this.
So be glad it is something simple to fix...

Oh wow, now I know what your comment on my post was about!

I will share a story from when I was a kid. My family went on vacation for a week. When we got home and walked into the house, there was...a smell. We went to the top of the stairs to the lower level and saw below, a foot of sewage. The sewer had backed up into our house. My dad goes, “Viv, where are my boots?” My mom: “In the basement.”

I am so sorry my friend and I would of lost it too as you just replaced those SUMP PUMPS and what they had no warranty with them? This is truly a nightmare, but just like this you will get through it as your a strong lady. I hope your life gets back on track soon and you get everything replaced and running back on track.

Staying in a hotel I know is not ideal especially when you have to go to work everyday, but enjoy some relaxing nights of sleep..hugs my friend..

I second the idea that there is a problem with something involving drainage from your home. In addition to checking storm sewer connections look at:

Eve trough downspouts - make sure the outflow is far enough away from the house that it keeps the water moving away from the house.

Land scaping around the house may have settled and allows water to pond next to the house.

Cracks in the basement walls?

If you have had a much wetter than normal year, that could contribute as well

There is nothing worse than gallons of water where it's not supposed to be....so sorry that this happened again. Do your best to enjoy the hotel for a couple of days. Huge hugs.

I don't think I have ever reached my breaking point...been very close at times but somehow I just keep going.

YIKES, I've never experienced anything close to this, except seepage through cracks in the foundation in the last house I owned. Unfortunately, the bedrooms were on the lower level and all the basement carpets ended up quite soggy. Fortunately, the sump pump we installed in the basement entry solved the problem, after burning up the motor on a wet vac.

I cannot even wrap my head around what you have experienced, but understand reaching the breaking point.

Please take extra care to pamper yourself, while you are staying at temporary digs.

So sorry to hear you had this kind of problem. Why does water pour into your basement so fast the pumps can't keep up? I would be looking at some kind of water proofing of the basement and some kind of external wall drainage that directs the water somewhere else. I know you live somewhat close to a lake. Your electric panels are only 4 ft above the floor? I would be thinking about moving those too if nothing can be done about water getting into your basement.
In one of my rentals that floods deep like yours did, I had a new furnace installed hanging from the floor joist.
In this case like yours I would be frustrated too. Call a few companies that specialize in flooded basement problems and get their thoughts on what you should do. Other than the headache your insurance should cover the damages. Maybe you should consider a whole house generator system for when the power goes out...this is twice in the last year that has caused your basement to flood. Take one step at a time is the best you can do now.

My breaking point is people...but I bite my tongue and avoid interacting with them in the future....I have rentals so it is rough for those that don't to imagine what kind of mess a renter can leave.

I would elevate anything off of the basement floor that I could ..don't know about backup batteries for sumps but that should be one of those items if you can.

I'm sorry all of that hit at once.

I have hit my breaking point. It was much darker and the stakes were probably a little higher. But like all things, that will pass and you will cime out a stronger person on the other side.

Sometimes, you don't come out of it as the same person and that's what i have been trying to live with.

You know what brings me to my breaking point? Car problems. Expensive auto repairs that hobble my freedom of movement.

In the old days they used to hang horse thieves, probably because such a violation really limits your capacity to earn a living. Same is true when you lose your wheels! Suddenly, you've got to fork out hundreds of dollars, deal with some greasy mechanic, and beg for rides or catch the bus!

For me, car problems always seem to come in the middle of some other crisis! Like office place stress or a struggling romance. Then the broken down vehicle becomes a multiplier for those other issues. That's when I start shouting out into the night, pleading to the clouds or lamenting to the stars my awful woes!
